FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Pilates?
    See my Studio page!

  • How do I know if it’s right for me?
The best way to know is to try it out. If you like moving, stretching, and feeling a burn, you’ll probably love Pilates.

  • Where is your studio located?

I teach out of my home in Ann Arbor, MI. I am right by Ann Arbor Saline Road and I-94. For my safety, I will give you my address at the time of booking, but if you would like it before booking, just reach out. Please note that to access the studio, you need to climb one flight of stairs. I do not have any pets, and I live with my fiancé, Lukas, who will not disturb us during your session.

  • What should I wear?
Something comfortable that you can move in. Preferably no zippers or buttons, as this can damage the equipment upholstery. Barefoot or socks (my equipment is thoroughly cleaned after every use.) I just ask that if you work barefoot, please maintain good foot hygiene and grooming!

  • What should I expect at my first session?
Expect to move all the major joints of your body, to work your core, and to move your spine in all directions in a quiet and private environment (sometimes I play music softly in the background, although this is optional.) Expect me to watch you basically the whole time - that’s how I learn about your body!

  • Do you work with injuries and special populations?
Of course! My comprehensive certification and extended workshops include training for most special circumstances. Pregnancy, postpartum, post injury rehab (following physical therapy of course), older populations, dancers and athletes, etc. I will never claim to know everything and I cannot diagnose issues, but I am more than qualified to guide you through a safe and challenging Pilates workout.

  • What is your cancellation policy?
I require 24 hours notice for all cancellations via email, phone call, or text. Less than that is not enough time to fill your slot with another client and you will be charged your full session rate. My policy is strict and includes sickness. Thank you for respecting my business as this is my primary source of income!

  • Do you give financial assistance or have a sliding scale?

No, I do not give financial assistance or have a sliding scale at this time. However, I hope to add more ways of teaching to my schedule to accommodate more budgets in the future!

  • Why should I do private sessions instead of group classes?
The obvious one, for one on one attention. Your form will never be corrected like it is in a private session, allowing you to get the MOST out of your hour workout. Other reasons may be: you don’t like working out around other people, you want a quiet and private space, you are busy and have certain scheduling needs, you need accountability, or you have demanding body needs like an injury that needs to be worked around. Private sessions are an incredible opportunity to give back to yourself.

  • Do I have to be injured or be a dancer to do Pilates?

Absolutely not! Pilates is for EVERYONE. If you aren’t dealing with any injuries, Pilates could help you prevent future ones! If you are not athletic and wish to be, Pilates could help you towards that! If you are a regular ol’ human who wants to move, it is perfect for that as well. It truly is for everyone at every stage.

  • How often should I do Pilates per week?
It depends on your schedule, energy, and budget. But I would say at least twice a week is ideal. Like anything, more frequency means easier and faster progress. However, I have plenty of clients who do one session per week and see incredible benefits from Pilates.

  • Will Pilates help me lose weight?

Possibly! First and foremost, I am not a weight loss expert, and I do not design weight loss programs. Furthermore, you will never hear me promoting weight loss as a reason to move your body. The fitness industry and American culture is saturated with fat phobia, and health cannot be determined solely by size. Every single sized body deserves space to move and feel good in their body for a multitude of reasons. However, if weight loss is a goal that you have, Pilates could be a valuable part of your exercise routine. I’m here to support YOU.

  • Why is Pilates so expensive?

Simply put, many traditional fitness classes are likely taught by someone with very little actual knowledge of the body. Most traditional fitness certifications require only a day or two of training. My Pilates training program all together required over 600 hours of training, observation, self practice, and practice teaching that took me over a year to complete and test out in. I have a college degree in movement and over ten years of experience teaching. I have taken countless additional workshops, many from physical therapists, that I’ve paid for myself to further my education, and I continue to do so every year. You can trust that by paying a premium rate, your body is in the best hands. You will never leave my studio injured, confused, feeling beat up in a bad way, or under challenged.

  • Can I have more details of your credentials?

Certainly, you can find them toward the bottom of my About page.

  • Are you available for private group classes?

Yes! If you are interested in a private small group class, just shoot me an email through my Contact page.
