The Studio

In the studio, we will work, play, sweat, stretch, focus, have fun, and get stronger! You’ll leave with more capacity, freedom, and vigor to do the things you love most in life.

What is Pilates?

Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It was originally called “Contrology” because it focuses on controlling the body through strengthening and mobilizing exercises. While that sentiment remains a bedrock in the world of Pilates, research and time has evolved many approaches to the method. In Pilates, we utilize spring tension, small props, and your own body weight to provide resistance for a well rounded workout.

In your session, you can expect to strengthen your core, the large muscle groups of the legs, the back/front/sides of the body, move your spine in all directions, and mobilize all your major joints. In Pilates, the physical therapy is built right in, making it easy to keep up with body maintenance.

With my individual attention, we will get you moving safely and effectively using whatever tools/apparatus I see fit for your body.

Truthfully, the best way to learn about Pilates is to try it!

The Apparatus

Reformer

The most popular way to do Pilates at the moment. The reformer is unmatched in the available variety of exercises, and the challenge of a moving carriage encourages body awareness and improves balance. A reformer workout hits every angle of the body. However, it is also an excellent tool for rehab exercises, and you’ll find one in most physical therapy offices. Do not be intimidated, my instruction is all you need to experience a great reformer workout. I handle all of the adjustments of the equipment so you can focus on being in your body.

Cadillac

Legend goes this was named after Joseph Pilates’ favorite car. The large surface area of the Cadillac bed provides ample support for those who need it. Heavier arm and leg springs bring more challenge and resistance to Reformer/Mat exercises. If you’ve never experienced a “roll down” with the roll down bar or a “push thru” with the push-thru bar, you’re missing out!

Mat

Mat work, when properly taught and done, unleashes a power within us like no other form of Pilates. It is arguably the most challenging way to do Pilates. I incorporate mat work into ALL of my client sessions. Mat work will make you STRONG, more confident in your own ability to move, and make your equipment workouts that much more effective. Harness the power of your own body.

Virtual Sessions

Virtual sessions are conducted via Zoom or Facetime. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I immediately began teaching a handful of clients via Zoom. After a move across the country, I am still teaching all of those clients to this day. An incredibly convenient option if you can’t make the trip to my studio, are on vacation, or would like to do half hour sessions. My clients say my instruction is crystal clear and they feel as if I was with them in person. All you need is a space to move and an internet connection. No props needed, although if you have them I can absolutely include them! I utilize both verbal instruction and demonstration when needed.

I own a Merrithew V2 Max Rehab Reformer/Tower. In my opinion, Merrithew is the top of the line when it comes to Pilates equipment.

5 springs allow us to vary the resistance in each exercise. The smooth glide of the carriage helps you focus on the exercise, not the equipment function. Beautiful upholstery is easy to clean after each client.

With endless attachments and settings, we can make the exercise work for YOUR individual body.
